Let him eat cake!
Or so we thought. The first try was at Wilson's paternal grandma's house (G-ma) in Detroit where he would have nothing to do with his own personal Dom's birthday cake (a local bakery and his daddy's favorite cake). He cried and yelled when icing was put in his mouth and when a small piece was cut to expose the curiosity of the inside (layers!) he only got more angry and vocal.
The second try was at JCPenney studio, where he had his own personal cake, and again he would have nothing to do with it. Never seen a baby be sad to have cake in his mouth? We have pictures to prove it happens.
The third time must have been the charm because at his AZ birthday party he reluctantly allowed a piece to be put in his mouth, and then on his own he played with the cake and wowed us all by eating some on his own.

And the heat goes on...
Said Bill, "even eating is making me hot"; granted, we were eating hot food and it was a hot day, but Michelle smiled coyly anyway. Yes, those wonderful winters don't come free in AZ.
In celebration of summer we have enrolled Wilson in parent infant swim classes. Wilson is loving the water! He "floats" on his back, climbs out of the pool, jumps into the pool (from a seated position) to the count of three, and lets all of the other children in class know how much they should like it during singing time.
All of this thrills Michelle, who has Olympic plans for Wilson in 2024. Bill has visions of hockey glory (or football, or baseball, or...), Michelle has the freestyle.

Wilson's Update-Has it been a year???
We cannot believe that it has been (over) a year since: "uhm? Bill, I think that my water broke." So much has changed with Wilson. But a few things haven't. Even in the womb the doctor and her staff declared him very active, and he is! Very curious and into everything!
Just today Wilson took full opportunity of a moment alone to practice something that he has been trying to try for a few weeks now, unroll the toilet paper roll.
A family update
Bill is working for Gentle Dentle and enjoys his co-workers and patients. We are trying to decide where we want to spend the rest of our lives; it is (at this moment in time) down to North Carolina, Colorado, and Arizona. The decision is stressful for Bill.
Michelle is back to full time as a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines. She works Sun-Tues on the pm shift; which means that she checks in for work around 2pm on Sunday and returns home late Tuesday night.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH! Who takes care of Baby Wilson while mom is away???*** Bill is a wonderful dad who takes over Sunday afternoon. For the next three days Bill tries to teach Wilson how to be a man. They nap, pass gas, watch sports, practice walking (Wilson, not Bill), pass gas, wear clothes that mom disapproves of, and pass gas. Michelle is grateful for all that Bill does, Bill is grateful for all that Michelle does (the rest of the week), and Wilson loves the time that he spends with daddy.
While Bill is working on Monday and Tuesday, Wilson goes over to wonderful Jodi's house to play with her children; he loves them and Jodi insists that they love him.
It is currently a wonderful set up for us, besides maintaining benefits (medical, dental, flight), Bill gets some bonding time, Michelle gets a little more sleep, Wilson gets to play with other children, and we all appreciate each other a little more.
***Truly, Bill and Michelle both work hard to care for Wilson (it is usually a tag team effort), and we are in constant amazement at how single parents manage.

We are going to try this again
We started this blog in January (another failed New Year's Resolution); but since it seems that everyone we know has one we are succumbing to the pressure, knowing full well that only five people are going to read it (we count as two).
Another benefit to this blog is creating a family history, for the seven people in the future who will care to read it (we count as two).
Take two!....

Navigating the Perils of Parenthood....
It seems that our child is sleep deprived; at least we hope. It would help explain why Wilson alternates between hyper moods and fussing all day long, and would also explain why he wakes up every few hours at night (sometimes hourly).
Upon the recommendation of friends, we (ok, Michelle) is applying the principles found in Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child. So far *gulp*, so good (quick! find some wood!); he usually makes it to bed around 6pm and wakes around 6am and then takes an afternoon nap around noon for a few hours. Much encouragement has been needed to maintain his sleepy state, but it is getting easier as he (and his brain) learn that sleep is good.
As if this progress isn't enough to make a mother weep (or finally sleep); he is actually taking his first morning nap since we started our little regimine just one week ago. I just hope that this does not send us back to square one! Yikes!
